STATE OF ILLINOIS EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH MONERIS SOLUTIONS FOR CREDIT/DEBIT TRANSACTION PROCESSING

Moneris, Which First Enabled The State to Process Credit Cards, Selected Again To Continue Processing Credit/Debit Transactions for Illinois Residents

CHICAGO, IL, September 8, 2003 – Moneris Solutions, one of North America’s largest electronic transaction processors, today announced that the Illinois Office of the Secretary of State has signed a multi-year renewal agreement for payment processing solutions.

Under the agreement, Moneris Solutions will continue its ten-year relationship with the State of Illinois, providing innovative payment processing solutions that allow Illinois residents to use their credit cards for a variety of business services, including driver’s license renewals and new license plate orders. In fact, the original partnership with Moneris Solutions in 1992 enabled the state to accept credit card payments for the very first time.

The Secretary of State’s Office is using Moneris Solutions’ hardware, proprietary software and service/support to accept credit and debit cards and electronic checks in their offices, over the phone and through the Internet. The Secretary’s Office is equipped to accept all credit cards, including Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express®, Diners®, Discover/Novus®. This means that when Illinois residents log-on to the Secretary of State’s website or call the designated number to renew their vehicle registration, their credit card transaction is being powered by Moneris.

”By adding this new option, we can give motorists another tool to make it easier to take care of their business from home,” Secretary Jesse White said. ”We hope that we can continue to expand our services to customers by using the Internet and the telephone.”

The Secretary of State’s Office allows motorists to renew their vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses of Safe Drivers by using a credit card when calling 800-664-1212 for Vehicle License Plate Renewal and 800-473-4406 for Drivers License Renewal or visiting www.cyberdriveillinois.com.

”Given that our U.S. headquarters are in Illinois, we are proud to be offering payment processing services to allow the 12.6 million residents in Illinois to pay for services provided by the Secretary of State,” said Larry C. Wine, president of Moneris Solutions, U.S. Group. ”Moneris has a long-standing history of delivering transaction processing solutions to Illinois residents and businesses both through our relationship with the Secretary’s Office and through our agreement with Harris Bank, one of Chicago’s leading financial institutions for over a century.”
